Marjan Khosravi’s 15-minute documentary will be screening at the Feature Film Competition Section of the 2nd edition of the Sevil Doc fest.
The award-winning doc, which was recently showcased at the 13th DMZ Int’l Documentary Film Festival (DMZ Docs) in South Korea, centers on Mina who, after bearing three daughters, has just one more chance; her next child has to be a boy or her husband will marry another woman.
This time, the expectant mother decides not to have an ultrasound scan, for fear of the result and the gossip that would ensue. She is already under enough pressure from her in-laws, although she does still have people on her side, too.
‘The Snow Calls’ is the winner of the best documentary award at the 18th Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula in the northwestern U.S. state of Montana.
“This film depicts community and family with an intimacy rarely seen on the big screen, and it uses cinema to amplify voices that absolutely need to be heard,” the jury of the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival wrote in a statement published on the event’s website.
The Jury Prize for a Non-Fiction film from the 51st Annual USA Film Festival is also another accolade bagged by Khosravi.
The Sevil International Women's Documentary Film Festival is the independent documentary film festival in Azerbaijan, focusing on women's issues.
The upcoming edition of the event is slated for August 25-29, 2021 in Baku.
